Join the Alberta Rural Connectivity Coalition on September 28, 2021, from 1:00 - 2:30pm MDT for a freeย virtual webinar on Canadian spectrum policies and how organizations can join the conversation to support rural and remote connectivity.
With the growth of wireless technologies, such as 5G, and their potential to improve mobile broadband speeds, spectrum regulation is becoming an increasingly important policy issue in Canada. This is particularly relevant for addressing rural and remote connectivity barriers.
This year, the Government of Canadaโs Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) concluded a spectrum auction for 20 year licences in the 3500 MHz band. This band, which historically has been used to provide fixed wireless internet access to many places in rural Alberta, is being converted to use for 5G mobile wireless. This change will have serious implications for the future of rural and remote connectivity.
Professor Michael McNally of the University of Alberta will lead a discussion on recent trends in Canadian spectrum regulationย and how it will impact rural communities. Professor McNally will also review how organizations can join the conversation to drive government policy.
